  • Announcement of Sheila's Retirement

Sheila Kucko, Assistant Director at the Asian American Cultural Center (AsACC) will be retiring after 28 years at UConn effective November 1, 2020. She began her career in the School of Nursing and then transitioned to the AsACC soon after it opened in 1993. Sheila has been instrumental in the building of the cultural center’s programs and services. Over the years she has served as the center’s fiscal officer, developed solid operational policies and procedures for the center, hired and trained hundreds of student staff, assisted in the promotion of the center and its programming, and consistently supported our campus partners particularly the Asian/Asian American Studies Institute. She has advised, mentored, and advocated for hundreds of students and the steady stream of traffic in and out of her office is a testament to her connection to them.

Sheila has served on numerous University committees over the years from search committees to task forces. As an active member of the University of Connecticut’s Professional Employees Association (UCPEA), she served as a Steward for Area 17 and chair for the Constitution & Bylaw Committee. She has been the advisor for many cultural, dance and vocal performance, and Greek student organizations.

The staff and alumni of the AsACC will miss her and the energy she brings to her work and the center. It is our hope to celebrate her and her contributions to UConn in person when the time is right. In the meantime, if you would like to share your wishes for her, please leave them here.
