    Philip and Barbara Kaplan Scholarship

    The Philip and Barbara Kaplan Scholarship has been established by Ambassador Philip S. Kaplan and Barbara Kaplan to support a student of exceptional academic achievement with a demonstrated commitment to pursuing a career in international public service. The scholarship awards up to $5,000 to defray tuition costs at the university.

    Eligibility:

    • Be a senior undergraduate student or graduate student
    • Be enrolled in the University’s Honors Program or participate in Enrichment Programs at the Storrs, CT campus
    • Demonstrate exceptional academic achievement
    • Demonstrate a commitment to pursuing a career in international public service via diplomacy, international affairs, law and international development career paths. A career in international public service requires a commitment to, “promote peace, support prosperity, and protect American citizens while advancing the interests of the U.S. abroad.”

    Application

    Application materials include a 500-word personal essay explaining the candidate's career objectives, an unofficial transcript, a resume, and one letter of recommendation from a faculty member.

    Essay:

    A career in international public service requires a commitment to, “promote peace, support prosperity, and protect American citizens while advancing the interests of the U.S. abroad.” In your essay, please explain your interest in and plans for a career in international public service. You may include discussion of any relevant research and influential faculty mentors, coursework and enrichment experiences (study abroad, internships, organizations) in your essay.
