    Program Logistics

    -Course title: EDCI 5830: Two-Way Immersion Education in Costa Rica
    -Faculty Leader: Elizabeth Howard, EDCI
    -Participants: up to 5 UConn students – both undergraduates and graduate students are eligible to participate. An interest in education and some proficiency in Spanish are preferred but not required.
    -Anticipated Timeframe: May 13, 2019 – June 27, 2020
    -Activities: 2-day professional development and orientation through Discover La Paz program; 6-week volunteer opportunity in La Paz classrooms; site visits to public schools in Costa Rica; ongoing home-stays with La Paz families
    -Learning objectives:
    -Define the three key areas of two-way immersion education, place-based learning, and cross-cultural competence and describe how they are enacted at La Paz.
    -Synthesize information on research and best practices in the chosen focal area and integrate it with experiential learning at La Paz.
    -Create instructional activities aligned with the three focal areas.
