  • UConn Honors Community Resources

    Dear Honors Community,

Following our Honors Inclusion Roundtable last month, some students in attendance indicated they would like to hear about resources that might help them exercise leadership at UConn.  Our team in the Programming & Events Office in Buckley wants to support students in their efforts to create change by sharing the following information.

SUBMITTING AN HONORS EVENT: Anyone at any UConn campus is free to submit an event for consideration as an Honors Event.  Please submit the form at least two weeks in advance of your planned activity to give our team enough time to process the form and place the event in our advertising pipelines.

ADVERTISING AN EVENT THROUGH HONORS: If your event is approved as an Honors Event per the process above, our team will advertise the event through the Honors Calendar, Honors Weekly, and Updates in Honors automatically.  The same form for Honors Events can also be used to submit general information that may be shared with the Honors community, even if it is not an Honors Event.  Again, please give our team two weeks’ lead time to ensure approved materials are in the advertising pipeline.

HONORS 4 DIVERSITY (H4D): Per the group’s description: “H4D is a student-run organization that seeks to embrace students that are underrepresented within the Honors community. The group aims to foster growth by celebrating and accepting cultural differences among all students trough hosting events and discussions in a welcoming and respectful atmosphere. H4D is a venue in which minority Honors students can voice their opinions and seek changes in order to benefit the Honors community as a whole.” Anyone who wants to learn more about H4D can email honorsevents@uconn.edu for more information.

KEEP IN TOUCH: For more information about what’s going on in the Honors community, we encourage you to check out:

    • Updates in Honors, our Daily Digest-style email, is sent to all Honors community members’ UConn email 11 AM Tuesdays (archived copies here)
    • Honors Weekly, our informational magazine-style publication, is emailed to all Honors community  members’ UConn email around noon on Fridays (latest edition here)
    • The Honors Calendar, which uses UConn’s Events platform to keep track of all tagged Honors Events, can be found on the bottom-left of the Honors homepage

As Dr. Lease Butts mentioned in her email to the Honors community on Friday, the Honors Programming & Events Office is a great first resource for any issues, concerns, or questions you may have.  Our Honors Guides for Peer Success and our professional staff are excited to support UConn Honors students as they change the world for the better.  If you ever run into any inclusion-related matters in the Honors community that you wish to discuss with someone, please feel free to contact Dr. Lease Butts, your Hall Director if applicable, or me.

If you have any questions, don’t hesitate to let me know.  Best wishes for a strong finish to the semester.

    Sincerely,

    Leigh
