Information

  • Honors First Year Writing Changes

UConn is piloting a completely redesigned first year writing course, which will be rolled out fully beginning in Fall 2020. In Spring 2020, Honors first year writing will join this pilot.

ENGL 2011 is ending. This is the last semester that Honors first year writing will use that course number. This is particularly important to consider if a student is performing poorly. Grade forgiveness for ENGL 2011 will not be possible

For Spring 2020, your students will have 3 choices:

    • ENGL 1010/1011 (non-Honors) under the current model
    • ENGL 1010 (non-Honors) pilot sections
    • Honors ENGL 1010 pilot sections

The new first year writing curriculum emphasizes writing across different modes (linguistic, visual, aural, gestural and spatial) and media. The Honors version of ENGL 1010 will engage students at appropriate levels of challenge throughout, offer more opportunities for connections to their own majors, further emphasize the role of inquiry and discovery in the humanities, and culminate in a public celebration of their work.

The Honors web site will link to the Honors ENGL 1010 section titles when they are available.
