    Communications Intern

    The Connecticut Small Business Development Center seeks a Communications Intern to help publicize our work and write stories about the clients we serve.

    About the Connecticut Small Business Development Center

    The Connecticut Small Business Development Center (CTSBDC) provides no-cost, confidential business advising services to small business owners and entrepreneurs in every stage of business development and growth in the state of Connecticut.

    CTSBDC is funded in part through a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Small Business Administration, the Connecticut Department of Economic and Community Development and the University of Connecticut, and is a member of America’s SBDC, celebrating 35 years of providing proven technical assistance to small businesses in over 1000 centers nationwide.

    Position Description

    Are you a journalism or communication student interested in using your skills to support small businesses?

    CTSBDC is recruiting an intern to write news, clients, and multimedia stories.

    This paid position is a great opportunity to produce external communications. In this position, your goals are to help highlight small businesses in Connecticut and raise awareness of the free services CTSBDC offers.

    Job Responsibilities:

    • Write business profiles and client success stories for print, website, social media, and other uses
    • Write press releases
    • Help identify content opportunities
    • Proofread and edit team work
    • Create videos and other multimedia communications to supplement news stories
    • Performs related duties as required

    Qualifications:

    • Bachelor’s degree and/or Master’s degree candidate, preferably in Journalism or Communication
    • Previous internship or news writing experience preferred
    • Excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills
    • Attention to detail
    • Self-starter who can take direction and contribute ideas
    • The ability to work independently on projects while meeting deadlines
    • Photography and video skills a plus
    • Knowledge of standard workplace technology
