COMM-Related Internships

  • Science Communication Intern - NRE Department

    The University of Connecticut’s Department of Natural Resources and the Environment is seeking a communication major for an unpaid internship in Fall 2018 (this student may be eligible for course credit through COMM 4991-- see Prof. Tom Meade for further details, thomas.meade@uconn.edu). 

    This position entails mostly written communication and marketing, but may include some audio and visual opportunities.  The main duties of this position are as follows:

    1. To remain in constant contact with the Department Head and Internship Supervisor, Dr. Jason Vokoun, as well as all faculty members of the Department.
    2. To write copy for press releases, news articles, and social media representing the Department and its various accomplishments.
    3. To distribute those articles and press releases to various news outlets.
    4. To market the Department using social media.

    It is important that the intern have the ability to effectively communicate complex topics to a broad audience.  Some desired characteristics include:

    1. An interest in the environment and the sciences.
    2. An ability to find and communicate storylines in various topics and interest areas.
    3. Experience in journalism and marketing, either through practice or in class.
