Academic and Scholarly Events

  • Writing Institute: one week left to register

    Overview:

Interested in applying for a NSF, NIH, Fulbright, or other fellowship this year? Starting in May 2018, this program will help guide graduate students as they prepare to write a fellowship application. The program will include:

    Two 1/2 Day Workshops

      • May 15th, 2018: overview of best practices for writing proposals as well as an overview of the fellowships available.
      • May 22nd, 2018: small group meetings will focus on the specific requirements of each type of fellowship. Each participant will establish their own writing plan for the summer.

    Support and Accountability

As participants write their proposal over the summer, program staff will provide check-ins and offer support and feedback on drafts of proposals. At the end of the summer, each participant will take part in a mock review panel, where they will receive feedback on their proposals from faculty experts in a related field. Participants who complete the program and submit fellowship proposals before January 1, 2019 will receive a stipend of $500.

    Requirements to Participate:

        • Must be enrolled in a UConn-based Graduate program.
        • Must commit to submitting a fellowship application to an external agency (e.g., NSF, NIH, Fulbright) by January 1, 2019.
        • Must be able to attend the institute workshops.
