    This webinar will provide a basic introduction to logic of PSM, when it provides a good approach, its place within the broader array of methods, and will use an example data set to cover what they see as the essential steps of a PSM, covering issues of matching (and rematching if needed), and alternative approaches. In the first webinar, you will learn:

                1. what propensity score matching is (PSM).

                2. when and why one should consider using PSM.

                3. steps involved in doing a PSM.

     

    (For the second webinar, Dr. Maruyama and colleagues will go into greater detail to show examples of how the methods have worked for their research group in practice, including how to use the SPSS/R interface.)

     

    Geoffrey Maruyama is Professor and Chair of the Department of Educational Psychology at the University of Minnesota. His research has focused on achievement processes in schools, on research methods for educational and other applied settings, and on action research approaches and engaged scholarship in challenged communities. He has written Research Methods in Social Relations (8th Edition, with Carey Ryan, 2014), Basics of Structural Equation Modeling (1998) and Research in Educational Settings (with Stanley Deno, 1992), along with numerous articles and chapters. His teaching has focused on social psychology and education, and research methods and applications of statistical methods. His engaged work has included four years directing the Research, Evaluation, and Assessment office of the Saint Paul Public Schools, and a year co-directing the University of Minnesota Urban Research and Outreach/Engagement Center.
