The American Association of University Women (AAUW) offers an encouraging award for women who are preparing to reenter the work force or change careers. Funding is also provided for those who wish to advance their current careers. AAUW is seeking women committed to education, an established study plan with career objectives, and a well-written proposal and budget.
DISCIPLINES
Open to all fields. Preference given to women pursuing credentials in nontraditional fields.
ACADEMIC LEVEL
Prospective Graduate Students. Current Graduate Students.
CITIZENSHIP
Open only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Must be in the early stages of a master's or professional degree program. Hold an earned (not honorary) bachelor's degree. Open only to women who have not received academic degrees in the last 4 1/2 years. Plan to enroll in one of the following: 1) Bachelor's or associate's degree that is different from the field of study of the previously earned bachelor's degree. 2) Master's degree. 3) Certification program. 4) Technical school. 5) Professional degree (e.g. M.D., J.D.). CV. Proposed budget and narrative. 1 letter of recommendation. Filing fee - $35 (nonrefundable). Special consideration given to women of color and women pursuing their first advanced degree in nontraditional fields.
STIPEND
Stipend of $2,000 to $12,000. Funds are provided for tuition, fees, books, transportation, and dependent care. Funds may be used only for approved expenses incurred during the grant year.
