  • Lung Health Dissertation Grant

    The American Lung Association (ALA) offers 1 predoctoral grant for up to 2 years for scholars with a career focused on the various disciplines of social science. Nurses or students can be awarded this grant. Recipients will examine risk factors affecting lung health by fostering laboratory, patient-centered and social-behavioral research.

    Health Sciences. Life Sciences. Social Sciences. School of Nursing. School of Public Health. School of Public Affairs. Psychosocial, behavioral, health services and health policy, epidemiological, biostatistical and public health education research.

     

    ACADEMIC LEVEL
    Students Working on Doctoral Dissertation.
     

    CITIZENSHIP

    Open only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. U.S. citizens or residents. Also open to Canadian citizens or permanent residents. Includes those with J-1, H-1B, TN, E-3 visa, 0-1, and F-1.

     

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Applicants must be a matriculating student in good standing in a full-time academic program leading to a doctoral degree. Individuals with an M.D. degree who wish to acquire a Ph.D. or those conducting bench research not involving patients or patient data are not eligible to apply. The sponsor should be a recognized authority in the applicant's field of research and possess the necessary training resources. Applicants will be chosen based on scientific merit, innovation, and feasibility of the research plan, and its relevance to the mission of the ALA, as well as the strength of the applicant's education and the sponsor's training record. Project proposal. 3 letters of recommendation.

     

    STIPEND

    Awards are up to $21,000 per year and cover stipend and research support. Renewable for a 2nd year.
