The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) offers 4 awards for grad studies in oceanography, marine biology, or maritime archaeology for 4 years. Dr. Nancy Foster was the former Assistant Administrator for Oceanic Services and Coastal Zone Management at the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA), and her advanced understanding of marine ecosystems is honored in this scholarship. Students pursing a master's degree are supported for 2 years and those pursuing a doctoral degree are supported for 4 years. Scholarship recipients will attend NOAA Orientation Training in their 1st year in the summer. DISCIPLINES Life Sciences. Physical Sciences. Social Sciences. School of Engineering. Limited to studies in oceanography, marine biology, or maritime archaeology (including all science, engineering, social science and resource management of ocean and coastal areas). ACADEMIC LEVEL Prospective Graduate Students. Current Graduate Students. Students Working on Master's Thesis. Students Working on Doctoral Dissertation. CITIZENSHIP Open only to U.S. citizens. ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS Must be accepted to an accredited institution in the U.S. and pursue study on a full-time basis. Must be pursuing or intending to pursue a masters or doctoral level degree in oceanography, maritime archaeology or marine biology. 3.3 GPA or above. All Doctoral scholars are required to complete at least one program collaboration. For master's degree level scholars, completion of a program collaboration is strongly recommended, but not required. STIPEND A 12-month stipend of $30,000 in addition to an education allowance of up to $12,000, and up to $10,000 of support for a 4-6 week program collaboration at a NOAA facility. Renewable.
