    Public Relations & Events Internship (Spring 2017)


    Description

    The Public Relations and Events Internship at Berk Communications will provide you with a great deal of hands-on experience in sport and entertainment public relations and event planning/execution.  It is a great opportunity for a passionate, creative, and focused graduate or undergraduate student who is interested in a career in sports or entertainment public relations, event management, or marketing. Over the course of the internship, the candidate would work closely with our experienced sports PR team, assisting in a variety of both challenging and interesting projects surrounding the professional athlete and personality clients represented by Berk.

    Duties will include:
    • Planning and execution of various public relations campaigns, programs, and events
    • Researching, generating, and pitching fresh ideas and public relations opportunities
    • Researching, coordinating, and assisting event logistics (Super Bowl, NBA All-Star, MLB All-Star, holiday toy drives, movie premieres, etc.)
    • Creating and updating event public relations materials (press releases, media alerts, event flyers, etc.)
    • Updating and maintaining detailed media lists
    • Creating and updating client biographies
    • Assisting with social media planning and strategy
    • Assisting additional Berk staff with duties as needed
    • General office duties and administrative services as assigned


    In the spring, this position is focused around long-lead pitching of offseason publicity opportunities, securing sports and non-sports public relations opportunities for clients, identifying and securing client opportunities around NFL playoffs/Super Bowl LII, start of MLB season, as well as the planning of spring and summer client events (community efforts, partner publicity events, etc.).


    This internship position is located at our New York office in Flatiron. It is a 25-30 hour/week internship.  Candidates must be available to work a minimum of three full days per week and intern with us from January through mid-May. In order to be considered for this unpaid internship, you must be able to receive college credit and provide proof of credit.


    Requirements:
    • Must receive college credit (no exceptions; does not have to be part of a degree-seeking program)
    • Preferably pursuing a master’s or bachelor’s degree in Communication, Public Relations, Marketing, or Event Management
    • Must have previous public relations and/or event planning experience; sport and/or entertainment-industry preferred
    • Extremely organized and able to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
    • Polished written and oral communication skills
    • Strong ability to work as part of a team, as some colleagues travel often and some may be in satellite offices
    • Strong knowledge of the Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook)
    • Functional knowledge of Microsoft Publisher and Adobe Photoshop a plus
