  • Rally in support of UConn

    Colleagues,

Interim Provost Teitelbaum wanted me to share with you the e-mail he recently sent to Deans, Department Heads, and Program Directors. You'll find the text of his e-mail below. The e-mail below specifically mentions graduate assistants. I strongly encourage faculty and departments to make arrangements so that all graduate students can participate in the rally should they choose to do so.

Kent Holsinger, Vice Provost for Graduate Education and Dean of The Graduate School

    Dear Colleagues,

The University's unions are organizing a rally in support of UConn at the Capitol in Hartford starting at 12:30 on Friday.  Many of our faculty, staff, and graduate students will want to participate.

As you know, the AAUP and UCPEA (and others), as part of the SEBAC agreement, accepted 3 furlough days this year.  Please inform department heads and faculty that we have no objection to faculty and other AAUP staff taking Friday as a furlough day provided that they make appropriate alternative arrangements for any classes that meet that day.  Staff should be granted similar accommodations to permit them to take a furlough day on Friday.

The Graduate Employee union is not a part of SEBAC, and so does not have any furlough days.  Nevertheless, I strongly  encourage departments and PI's to permit graduate assistants flexibility to make alternative arrangements for their courses or to reschedule their other work assignments so that they, too, can participate.

Please spread the word as Friday is approaching quickly.

Jeremy Teitelbaum, Interim Provost and Executive Vice President for Academic Affairs
