The Department of Sociology & Anthropology at Northeastern University invites applications for a nine month, full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant, beginning September 1, 2017.

The successful candidate will assist with data analysis and manuscript preparation on an NIH-funded grant to identify political, social, and economic barriers in the integration of innovating diagnostic technologies into state public health programs. Advanced knowledge of concepts and theoretical frameworks in organizational sociology and medical sociology is essential. Proficiency in NVivo version 10.0 or higher is required. Familiarity with public health programs, epidemiologic methods, and health policy is helpful, but not essential. Applicants need to be detail-oriented. Time management, interpersonal sensitivity, and excellent writing and computer skills are also necessary.

Responsibilities include (a) conducting and transcribing interviews with scientists and state health officials, (b) conducting archival and web research on state health departments and programs, (c) participant observation at meetings with state health officials and their scientific advisory committees, and (d) preparation of grant applications, reports, and manuscripts. The job may require some travel to meet policymakers at their offices. All work will be executed in close collaboration with the principal investigator and other team members.

Qualifications: Must have a Ph.D. or equivalent; be able to undertake substantially full-time research or scholarship; work under the supervision of a senior scholar.
