Academic and Scholarly Events

  • The Whole Scientist (Apply Today!)

Current pre- and postdoctoral programs in the biomedical sciences effectively train rising scientists within a narrow scope of laboratory-based skills. Unfortunately, this training often doesn't foster other necessary skills that have become increasingly vital for successful careers in science, in and outside of academia.

The Whole Scientist combines classroom learning with post-course applied practicums to help participants develop capability and confidence in:

    • laboratory and personnel management
    • IDP preparation and execution
    • grant writing
    • evidence-based teaching practices and course design
    • mentoring
    • research ethics
    • entrepreneurship and business management
    • communication to a variety of audiences
    • going on the job market in and outside of academia
    • networking skills
