  • COMM Speaker Series - Advertising & Society

Our second Speaker Series event for this semester is scheduled for Thu, March 23rd at 12:30pm (Arjona 225), where we will have a research presentation by Dr. Sun Joo (Grace) Ahn from the Grady School of Journalism & Mass Communication, University of Georgia.

Dr. Ahn’s research investigates how digital media transform traditional rules of persuasive communication, shaping the way that people feel, think, and behave in the physical world.  Ahn’s earlier work looked at the effect of virtual environments and digital self-representations on favorable self-brand associations. More recently, she has examined the use of immersive virtual environments on promoting good energy behavior such as paper conservation. Her ongoing projects include the use of digital media technology such as social media, video games, and immersive virtual environments as tools of persuasion, and whether the effect of these virtual interactions will transfer into the physical world to influence the cognition, emotion, and ultimately the behavior of their users.
