    Minority Fellowship Program - American Psychological Association (APA),

    Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA)              

                   

                     

    The American Psychological Association (APA) awards 33 PhD and postdoctoral individuals who study behavioral outcomes in ethnic minority communities for 3 years. The APA Minority Fellowship Program is an innovative, comprehensive and coordinated training, mentoring and career development program that enhances psychological and behavioral outcomes of ethnic minority communities. Two fellowships (Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Predoctoral Fellowship and the Mental Health and Substance Abuse Services Postdoctoral Fellowship) to promote competent behavioral health services and policy for ethnic minority populations and increase the number of ethnic minority psychologists providing behavioral health services and developing policy for ethnic minority populations.

    Students Working on Doctoral Dissertation. Postdoctoral Scholars.

     

    CITIZENSHIP

    Open only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents. Non-citizen nationals are also eligible to apply.

     

    ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

    Must show commitment to a career in ethnic minority behavioral health services or policy. Member of one of the following minority groups are encouraged to apply: Black Americans, Hispanics, American Indians, Alaska Natives, Asian Americans, and Pacific Islanders. Postdoctoral

    fellowship: Must have received a conferred doctoral degree in psychology in the last five years and be engaged in specialized postdoctoral training by the fall immediately following the application deadline.

    Demonstrate support from an established sponsor at his/her postdoctoral institution. CV. Dissertation abstract. Transcripts. Training proposal.

    Addictions training plan. Applicant/sponsor proposal collaboration.

    Selection of sponsor and institution. 2 letters of recommendation.

    Predoctoral fellowship: Must be enrolled in an APA-accredited doctoral program during the fall term immediately following the application deadline. Cannot be interns. Cover letter. 2 essays. CV. Addictions training plan. Transcripts. 3 letters of recommendation. GRE report.

     

    STIPEND

    Competitive stipends and benefits are offered to all fellows.

    Predoctoral program: renewable for up to 3 years. Postdoctoral program:

    renewable for up to 2 years. Offers ancillary training opportunities and enrichment experiences.
