Nuclear Security Administration (DOE NNSA), Krell Institute
Department of Energy National Nuclear Security Administration (DOE NNSA) awards fellowships for 4 years to PhD students who will research stewardship science. The program provides excellent financial benefits and professional development opportunities to students pursuing a PhD in fields of study that solve complex science and engineering problems critical to stewardship science. In addition to study and research, the fellowship also includes work experience at DOE NNSA research facilities located in California and New Mexico.
DISCIPLINES
Physical Sciences. School of Engineering. Open to senior undergraduate students and first- and second-year PhD students focusing their studies on high energy density physics, nuclear science, or properties of materials under extreme conditions and hydrodynamics.
ACADEMIC LEVEL
Prospective Graduate Students. Current Graduate Students.
CITIZENSHIP
Open only to U.S. citizens or permanent residents.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS
Must be enrolled as full-time graduate students at an accredited US college or university. The summer should be spent conducting full-time research related to the completion of one's degree, enrolled in classes, or on a practicum assignment at one of the DOE NNSA laboratories. Each Fellow's department must waive any teaching requirements beyond one term. Applicants studying a science or engineering discipline related to high energy density physics, nuclear science, or materials under extreme conditions and hydrodynamics, are eligible. Transcripts. GRE scores.
Reference letters. Applicant will work with her or his graduate advisor to generate their proposed Program of Study (POS).
STIPEND
$36,000 stipend plus tuition; $1,000 yearly academic allowance to be used for research or professional development expenses. Renewable for up to 4 years.
