    American Educational Research Association (AERA) Dissertation Grants

    With support from the National Science Foundation (NSF), the AERA Grants Program announces its Dissertation Grants competition. The program seeks to stimulate research on U.S. education issues using data from the large-scale, national and international data sets supported by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES), NSF, and other federal agencies, and to increase the number of education researchers using these data sets. The program supports research projects that are quantitative in nature, include the analysis of existing data from NCES, NSF or other federal agencies, and have U.S. education policy relevance.

    Center for Retirement Research at Boston College Dissertation Fellowships

    The Center for Retirement Research at Boston College sponsors the annual Dissertation Fellowship Program in the field of retirement income research.  The program is funded by the U.S. Social Security Administration and provides funding opportunities for doctoral candidates to pursue cutting-edge research on retirement issues. Priority areas include: Social Security, Macroeconomic analyses of Social Security, Wealth and retirement income, Program interactions, International research, Demographic research.

    Chateaubriand Fellowship – Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS)

    The HSS Chateaubriand is a fellowship program offered by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the US. It targets outstanding PhD students from American universities who seek to engage in research in France in any discipline of the Humanities and Social Sciences. Fellowships range from 4 to 8 months.

    Eligibility: Candidates do not need to be US citizens, but must be enrolled as a PhD student in an American university

    Council of American Overseas Research Centers Mediterranean Regional Research Fellowship (pre- and post-doctoral)

    The Council of American Overseas Research Centers is pleased to offer a focused regional fellowship program enabling pre- and early postdoctoral scholars to carry out research in the humanities and related social sciences in countries bordering the Mediterranean and served by American overseas research centers. Funding for this program is generously provided by The Andrew W. Mellon Foundation.

    Josephine de Karman Fellowship

    The Josephine de Karman Fellowship Trust was established in 1954 by the late Dr. Theodore von Karman, world renowned aeronautics expert and teacher and first director of the Guggenheim Aeronautical Laboratory at the California Institute of Technology, in memory of his sister, Josephine, who died in 1951. The purpose of this fellowship program is to recognize and assist students whose scholastic achievements reflect Professor von Karman’s high standards. DeKarman fellowships are open to students in any discipline, including international students, who are currently enrolled in a university or college located within the United States. Only candidates for the PhD who will defend their dissertation by June 2017 are eligible and special considerations for candidates in the Humanities.

    New York Public Library Short Term Fellowships

    The New York Public Library is pleased to offer Short-Term Research Fellowships to support visiting scholars from outside the New York metropolitan area engaged in graduate-level, post-doctoral, and independent research.  Fellowship stipends are $1,000 per week for up to four weeks and fellows must be in residence at the Library for a minimum of two weeks between June 1, 2017 – May 31, 2018.  Individuals needing to conduct on-site research in the Library’s special collections to support projects in the humanities including but not limited to art history, cultural studies, history, literature, performing arts and photography are welcome to apply.

    Smithsonian Latino Center - Latino Museum Studies Program

    The Latino Museum Studies Program (LMSP) provides a national forum for graduate students to share, explore and discuss the representation and interpretation of Latino cultures in the context of the American experience. It provides a unique opportunity to meet and engage with Smithsonian professionals, scholars from renowned universities, and with leaders in the museum field. If you are a graduate student enrolled or engaged in the fields of Latino art, culture, and history, consider applying. These include but are not limited to art history, visual arts, digital arts, cultural anthropology, arts management, performing arts, and related studies.

    UA Center for Creative Photography - Kenneth J. Botto Research Fellowship

    Awards of up to $5,000 will be given in support research at the UA Center for Creative Photography by curators, writers, and researchers investigating the life and work of Kenneth J. Botto. Photographers will work to incorporate set-up, collage, and constructed imagery; or photographers whose work is a critical comment on political, social, and/or art historical issues in society.

    Winterthur Fellowships (National Endowment for the Humanities Fellowship, Dissertation Fellowships, and Short-term Fellowships)

    Research fellows conduct research in many areas of social and cultural history, including material culture, architecture, decorative arts, design, consumer culture, garden and landscape studies, Shaker studies, travel and tourism, the Atlantic World, and objects in literature. Winterthur's collections are rich and diverse, and applications that offer fresh approaches to its resources are welcome.
