    Open To

    Current Graduate Students. Students Working on Doctoral Dissertation.

     

    Citizenship

    No citizenship requirements. Candidates do not have to be U.S. citizens, but they must be enrolled in an American university. French citizens are not eligible to apply.

     

    Eligibility Requirements

    Must be currently working on their PhD. Candidates must obtain a letter of recommendation from their advisor(s) in the U.S., as well as a letter of invitation from a professor affiliated with a French university or research institution. Description of the research project.

     

    Stipend

    Monthly stipend of 1,500 Euros ($1,666 US) plus health insurance and travel expenses.

    Program Description

    The Cultural Services of the French Embassy in the U.S. offers fellowships for PhD research in France with a French research institution for up to 8 months. The HSS Chateaubriand fellowship program's purpose is to foster bilateral cooperation at Ph.D. and research level, and to build and strengthen bridges between our two nations. Any discipline of the Humanities and Social Science is welcome to apply. There are three types of fellowships. The Fall Fellowship lasts for 4 months and starts October 1st. The Spring Fellowship lasts for 4 months and starts February 1st. The Year-long Fellowship lasts for

    8 months and starts October 1st.

    Chateaubriand Fellowship - Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (STEM) - Office for Science and Technology (OST) of the Embassy of France in the United States

     

    Targeted Fields

    Health Sciences. Life Sciences. Physical Sciences. School of Engineering. School of Public Health. All STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and Health disciplines are eligible.

     

    Open To

    Current Graduate Students. Students Working on Doctoral Dissertation.

     

    Citizenship

    No citizenship requirements. Applicant must be a student in an American university.

     

    Eligibility Requirements

    Applicants must be PhD students in an American university. The research should be performed in a French university, engineering school, national laboratory or private enterprise, with a link to a Doctoral School. List of publications. List of past fellowships received. List of degrees received, including place and date. List of other fellowships you are applying for. Summary of research in the U.S. and summary of research to be performed in France. Detailed description of your current research project in U.S. including your project in France (3 pages). Transcripts.

    Letter of agreement from your thesis advisor in the US agreeing that part of your thesis will be co-supervised by a French colleague. Letter of invitation from your project advisor in France agreeing to co-supervise part of your thesis. At least one letter of recommendation from a professor who knows your work but who is not your U.S. or French advisor. Contact information of host laboratory in France. If your application is linked to an existing French-American collaboration, please be ready to provide information on this collaboration.

     

    Stipend

    Monthly allowance up to 1400 euros, travel support, and health insurance abroad.

    Program Description

    Office for Science and Technology (OST) of the Embassy of France in the US allows American PhD students to do research at a French university for 4-9 months. Fellows can also research at a school of engineering, state funded laboratory, or private enterprise. The Chateaubriand Fellowship aims to initiate or reinforce collaborations, partnerships or joint projects by encouraging exchange at the doctoral level. This fellowship also fosters scientific exchange between France and the United States. Fellows will participate in a co-supervised research project.
