  • 10/19 For Freshmen - Holster Application Workshop

    Dear Honors Freshman,

The Holster Scholars program is a highly selective enrichment opportunity available only to curious first-year honors students.  Inspired by Robert Holster’s own excitement in discovering new paths of learning as an honors student at UConn, the program supports a small number of highly motivated students who wish to complete an independent research project in the summer following their freshman year.  The Holster Scholars program seeks to encourage and develop the energy and curiosity of first-year students and afford them the resources to enact their own discoveries and pursue their passions beyond the classroom.

Holster First Year Projects are in-depth, individualized learning experiences.   Projects are self-designed, and may emerge from disciplinary interests or represent a wholly different dimension within a student’s academic life.  Students are encouraged to “think outside the box” in terms of the shape and substance of their projects.  A Holster First-Year Project can be an opportunity to take knowledge a step further or to explore uncharted territory.  In each case, projects should be challenging, rigorous, and original.

Holster Scholars whose projects are selected will receive a $4,000 in research support to complete their projects during the summer under the guidance of a faculty mentor.

    Want to learn more?

If so, please join us Wednesday, October 19, at 7:00pm in the Buckley Classroom for a Holster Application Workshop for interested students.  The session will be led by Dr. Vin Moscardelli, the Director of the Office of National Scholarships and Fellowships (ONS&F).

    Hope to see you there!
