Internships

  • Legislative & PP Internship, CT Insurance Dept.

    Legislative & Public Policy Internship

    Connecticut Insurance Department

Internship will run from February to May and is unpaid.

Students interested in government, political science, insurance, consumer affairs/advocacy, or public health issues would be a good fit as most of the bills and policy discussions are health related.

    This internship will focus on:

    • Tracking of bills proposed during the three-month 2024 Legislative Session.
    • Preparing for department weekly internal legislative tracking meetings.
    • Monitoring and tracking Insurance & Real Estate Committee bills, Public Health Committee Bills and other legislation that may impact the Insurance Department, the insurance industry and insurance consumers.
    • Comparing legislative proposals and matters of public policy.
    • Drafting summaries of bills and amendments and legislative testimony.
    • Attending meetings with legislators, public policy advocates, lobbyists, and trade associations.

The Department is looking for someone who is well organized and able to work independently for approximately 15 hours per week. Work can mostly be done remotely.

Public meetings are held at the Legislative Office Building and session days are at the State Capitol. Those meetings can be accessed remotely but students are encouraged to attend in person whenever possible.

Students are encouraged to submit a letter of interest by January 26 explaining why this would be a good fit for them and what they would like to learn. The position will remain open until filled.
