If you have an interest in pre-law but are not yet connected to the Pre-Law Advising office here is some information that could be helpful as a pre-law student at UConn Stamford!
The UConn Pre-Law Advising Office is here to help UConn pre-law undergraduate students and alumni with the pre-law journey. They offer advising and workshops throughout the year as well as host events. Here are a few helpful tips to get started:
1. Subscribe to our listserv to take full advantage of valuable information and opportunities from our office. Email prelaw@uconn.edu from your UConn email account and request to be added, stating your anticipated year of graduation.
2. If you have specific questions or concerns, make an appointment with Diane Whitney, JD (UConn’s Pre-Law Advisor) through https://nexus.uconn.edu/. Diane is located at the Storrs campus but has appointments virtually with students from all campuses. If you would like to talk to an advisor in-person at the Stamford campus, you can contact Kaitlin Heenehan through Nexus.
3. There is a newly formed pre-law club that you can get involved with at Stamford called "Empowering People in Law". This club meets monthly through Webex. It provides resources for applying to law schools, presentations, and timelines that would be helpful for your pre-law journey. Sign up for emails about club meetings through uconntact
4. While there is not a specific curriculum or pre-requisite coursework required for law school, the following are suggestions for some introductory-level classes recommended to help you prepare for the LSAT and law school. These classes can expand your vocabulary and critical thinking skills, which is important for law school. ANY class that requires you to write logically, demands concise analysis of issues, and asks you to develop your analysis beyond a recitation of facts will be useful.
