Advising on Education Abroad

  • Newly Admitted International Student Options

The following two messages was sent to admitted International Undergraduate Students by UConn Admissions.

Email One: Sent to all Chinese Citizens.

While there is still much uncertainty surrounding international travel over the coming months, we strongly encourage students to complete the I-20 request form. When you complete the I-20 request form, choose fall 2021 as your term.

At this time, we are pleased to share with you three alternative options to in-person study at UConn, which are available in the case you are unable to travel to the U.S.:

Option 1: With UConn's global partner in Shanghai, East China Normal University (ECNU), you may enroll in its fall 2021 courses to begin your UConn studies from across the globe. As you may know, ECNU is one of China's top research universities. Under the on going circumstance, ECNU has graciously agreed to host UConn students again who may be unable to arrive in the United States in time for the fall 2021 semester. For additional information and to apply, visit UConn First Year Experience at ECNU.

Option 2: With UConn's global partner in Ningbo, you may enroll in the University of Nottingham’s Ningbo China campus for its fall 2021 courses to begin your UConn studies from across the globe. As you may know, the University of Nottingham is one of the world's top research universities. Under the on going circumstance, University of Nottingham-Ningbo has graciously agreed to host UConn students again who may be unable to arrive in the United States in time for the fall 2021 semester. For additional information and to apply, visit UConn First Year Experience at University of Nottingham Ningbo.

Option 3: With UConn’s global partner in the United Kingdom, you may enroll in courses through Anglo Educational Services (AES) for the fall 2021 semester to begin your UConn studies from across the globe. UConn has an existing close partnership with AES, which allows UConn students to study abroad at their academic center in London. Under the on going circumstances, UConn and AES have created a special program for newly admitted UConn students who may be unable to arrive in the United States in time for the fall 2021 semester. For additional information and to apply, visit UConn First Year Experience in London.

All ECNU, Nottingham-Ningbo, and Anglo Educational Services courses offered to UConn students have been reviewed and approved by UConn. Credits earned for courses taken at ECNU, Nottingham-Ningbo and Anglo Educational Services during the fall semester would be accepted by UConn, pending a satisfactory, passing grade. We would then welcome you to join your classmates at UConn in spring 2022.

While studying at ECNU, Nottingham-Ningbo, and Anglo Educational Services, just like any UConn student, you would have access to:

    • UConn’s dedicated team of academic advisors and support services staff, who are committed to helping you through your first semester as a UConn student.
    • A UConn First Year Experience course designed specifically for you as you navigate this new and unexpected change in plans.

To learn more about the three options, please join us for the UConn Global Programs Webinar on April 8, 2021 at 8:00 a.m. EST (8 p.m. Shanghai time). Password: UConn

In addition, don’t forget to complete your I-20 request form. Note that the I-20 request form does not commit you to arrive at UConn for fall 2021 in-person course. If you choose one of the three other options, UConn will work with you on changing the term on your I-20.
