  • Part Time Language Consultant Opening

The UConn Linguistics Department seeks to hire a native speaker of a language that is relatively unfamiliar in this country, to serve as consultant in the Fall 2026 course Field Methods in Linguistics. Speakers of African languages are especially encouraged to apply, though other applicants will also be considered.

The consultant’s work is primarily to answer translation questions posed by the students in the class as they learn hands-on to create descriptions and analyses of an unfamiliar language. This is not a teaching job; a faculty instructor will organize the course and guide all sessions.

The consultant must attend all class meetings Mondays and Wednesdays, 10:10-11:25, and some additional small group sessions to be arranged at times compatible with the consultant’s availability.

The workload will be around 10 hours per week at $28.80 per hour. This will be a one semester appointment with the possibility of some future continuation based on the students’ research projects.

The consultant must be a US citizen or holder of a visa allowing them to work part-time (usually F-1 or J-1); international students with 50% (or more) GA support are not eligible to apply.

Review of applications begins immediately. Interested parties should apply ASAP.
