    Why take this course?

We investigate public policy across key areas—economic management, civil rights and liberties, welfare, healthcare, education, immigration, criminal justice, energy, and the environment. For each area, we trace policy development, identify major actors and turning points, and assess current challenges.

Throughout, we consider central questions: To what extent do elections give citizens control over policy? How do interest groups, bureaucracies, and the media shape outcomes? Who benefits most from public policy? And how can tools from the social sciences help us evaluate policy effectiveness?
