Brown Undergraduate Journal of Middle East Studies (BUJMES).
BUJMES is an undergraduate-operated interdisciplinary journal featuring academic and creative work on the Middle East/South West Asia and North Africa from undergraduate and graduate students regardless of institutional affiliation. At its core, BUJMES seeks to provide a forum that uplifts often overlooked content, discourses, and voices in order to build knowledge that nuances hegemonic and narrow understandings of the expansive region and its diverse peoples.
At this time, we are seeking any and all submissions for our upcoming Spring 2026 issue. We, of course, welcome academic papers but also strongly encourage submissions of creative nonfiction and fiction, visual artwork, poetry, and more! Submissions in languages other than English are welcomed, but publishing them will depend on the editing and translation capabilities of our team. The deadline for submissions is end-of-day December 1, 2025. Please submit any pieces (as many as you’d like) using this form.
The application for joining our editorial team (as editors or graphic designers) is also open and can be found here. The deadline for editor applications is November 3, 2025.
In the meantime, here is a link to our previous issues, and make sure to follow us on Instagram: @bujmes. If you have any questions, please email us at bujmes@brown.edu.
All the best,
