  • Consider a Double Major or Minor in Sociology!

Hello Political Science majors and minors! Are you exploring options for a double major or minor? If so, consider Sociology!

    What exactly is Sociology?

Sociology teaches students how society works and their place in it. Sociology helps students understand the challenges of the social world and what they can do to make a difference. Students with a Sociology major develop skills to work in diverse areas such as counseling, social work, criminal justice, public relations, education, human resource management, healthcare, government, law, public policy, the non-profit sector, publishing, communications, business, city and regional planning, and more.

    Double Major Requirements:

Sociology works extremely well as a double major for students who already have a major in CLAS. The Sociology major simply requires one 1000-level SOCI course and eight 2000-level or higher courses in the major. These are comprised of 3 core SOCI courses and 5 elective SOCI courses including one W course. We also require 4 Related courses but POLS courses are automatically approved as Sociology Relateds! Additionally, SOCI courses can be used as Relateds for the Political Science major!

    Minor Requirements:

We offer a minor in Sociology that simply requires one 1000-level SOCI course, either SOCI 3201 or 3251, and 4 elective 2000-level or higher SOCI courses. Students from any major at UConn can add Sociology as a minor.
