    Reentry Internship Description 

    Alternative in the Community Program Windham Reentry Council


    The Alternative in the Community (AIC) Reentry Program and the Windham Reentry Council are dedicated to supporting individuals transitioning back into the community after incarceration. The AIC utilizes strategic case management, group services, basic need assistance, and employment support to focus on rehabilitation, skill development, and building positive community connections. The Council meets every month with local stakeholders to discuss the state of reentry in Northeast CT, identify areas of need, and collaborate on initiatives to improve quality of service and reduce recidivism.


    Internship Overview –
    As an intern for reentry, you will practice evaluating criminogenic risks and needs, learn about political issues surrounding incarceration, the effects of policy and legislation on the criminal justice system, the impact of a social justice approach to reentry, you will also gain experience working in community and nonprofit service, and discuss the links between human development, society, and criminal activity.


    Additionally, you will assist in program coordination, learn best practices in reentry support, complete case management and service planning, organize workshops, fundraisers, and community events, work closely with CT Judicial Branch Adult Services (CSSD), and collaborate with community stakeholders. You will gain hands-on experience in the field and receive invaluable mentorship from a skilled and passionate team.

    What We’re Looking For –
    •Enthusiastic individuals who are interested in criminology, social justice, legislation, social work, community, and/or public health
    •Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
    •Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
