    Sustainable Communities Fellow

    Summary

    Sustainable CT inspires, supports, and celebrates action by Connecticut towns and cities. From renewable energy to healthy local food systems, welcoming and creative public spaces, and diverse affordable housing options, we help build communities that improve the lives of all residents. Our major program areas include: direct support to towns on a comprehensive roadmap of sustainability actions; funding for community-led sustainability projects; and a certification program to recognize communities’ achievements. Sustainable CT is pleased to offer this Fellowship in partnership with the Connecticut Green Bank.

    Role of the Sustainable Communities Fellow

    The Fellow will play a key role in Sustainable CT’s outreach to municipalities. The Fellow will support municipalities across the state as they complete sustainability actions and apply for certification. Support may include researching and identifying actions related to certification; uploading actions onto municipal certification dashboards; meeting with communities and tracking progress towards certification, etc.

    The Fellow will also support in promoting, conducting outreach, and soliciting feedback for Sustainable CT’s strategic partner, the Connecticut Green Bank. The Fellow will support municipalities to complete actions that align with Green Bank programing, such as running community energy campaigns and hosting workshops on the C-PACE financing tool.

    The Fellow will report to the Sustainable CT Executive Director and work in a dynamic team environment in collaboration with Connecticut Green Bank staff.   

    This is a twelve-month-long fellowship position, generously supported with funding from the CT Green Bank. The position is a full-time, "exempt", at-will position.

    Duties

    ·     Help support key Sustainable CT programs. For example: recruit new towns into Sustainable CT and support participating towns in accordance with program strategy and goals; help implement, track, and support opportunities for town input (surveys, meetings); organize and manage processes and information for tracking municipal certification; review municipal certification submissions; etc.

    ·     Support municipalities with hands-on technical assistance to identify municipal actions that may be eligible for credit towards certification, gather and upload documentation, and provide other certification application technical assistance.

    ·     Help schedule and assist with stakeholder outreach and initiatives.

    ·     Provide outreach and deliver presentations to help towns and residents understand Sustainable CT programs and the value of participating in Sustainable CT.

    ·     Provide outreach to help municipalities understand and access the CT Green Bank’s products (such as the C-PACE program).

    ·     Prepare presentations, reports, website content, etc. at the direction of Sustainable CT staff.

    ·     Other duties that help advance Sustainable CT’s mission and the goals of the CT Green Bank.

    Experience and Qualifications

    ·     Applicants must have graduated from an institution of higher education during the 2023-2024 academic year, or December 2024. Preference will be given to applicants who can begin to work full time in November 2024.

    ·     Dedication to Sustainable CT’s mission, work, and team.

    ·     Excellent oral and written communication skills.

    ·     Understanding of the interconnected concepts of sustainability in the Sustainable CT roadmap.

    ·     Work style embraces: creativity, fun, flexibility, co-creation, eagerness to learn new things, comfort in taking risks, and trust.

    ·     Ability to work independently and in a virtual work environment with close team collaboration.

    ·     Strong organizational and project management skills with a focus on detail and quality; proven ability to prioritize and successfully balance multiple deadlines.

    ·     A basic understanding of Connecticut.

    ·     Dedication to equity and inclusion, lived or professional diversity experience.

    ·     Proficiency with standard office technology and software (MS Office Suite, Google Drive, etc.).

    ·     Ability to have a regular presence in events throughout Connecticut.

    Pay and Benefits

    This is a twelve-month-long position with an anticipated start in November of 2024 and ending in November 2025. The salary for this position is $41,600. Benefits include:

    ·     Healthcare reimbursement through an Individual Coverage Health Reimbursement Arrangement;

    ·     Milage Reimbursement.

    Work Location

    Sustainable CT is a remote organization, with mandatory, in-person team gatherings held throughout Connecticut at least once a month. As this position is remote, candidates must have a professionally appropriate home office or another remote workspace. Additionally, staff must be willing and able to travel independently throughout the state on a regular basis.

    Sustainable CT is a 501(c)3 charitable organization that relies completely on grant funding. This employment opportunity is for a full-time, at-will position. All positions are dependent on the availability of continued grant funding.
