We wanted to share information about a scholarship program offered by the Connecticut Bar Association (CBA) for students who are exploring law school or considering taking the LSAT and weighing their test prep options. We have recently revised and relaunched the application materials.
The Connecticut Bar Association Future of the Legal Profession Scholars Program provides financial and mentoring support to aspiring Connecticut-area, first generation law students who have demonstrated a commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion or who have overcome adversity in their pursuit of a future career in the law. As part of the program, Scholars will receive a full scholarship to take the Kaplan LSAT prep course and participate in events and programs to prepare them for their law school journey and engage them with the Connecticut legal community. Scholars will have mentoring and networking opportunities before they matriculate to law school, which will prepare them to submit a strong law school application, apply for grants and scholarships, and be successful through their time in law school. Program participants will also meet with members of the Connecticut legal community to learn more about legal practice areas and career paths. To date, our Scholars have come from schools as varied as Wesleyan, Conn College, UConn, Yale, Cornell, CCSU, ESCU, and USJ, to name a few. We have supported their successful matriculation to law schools including UConn, Western New England, Quinnipiac, George Washington University, and Duke.
The Future of the Legal Profession Scholars Program aspires to support first generation Connecticut college students who will take the LSAT, allowing them to pursue a legal education, create a network in Connecticut, and remain in-state to practice law. Additional information about the program and application process is available on the CBA website and in an article recently penned by the Chair of the Scholars Committee in CT Lawyer magazine (available here). Applications are accepted on a rolling basis and reviewed by an engaged committee of attorneys with varied legal practices and backgrounds. We welcome your students to apply!
