CHEM 1194 The Science of Chemistry, will be offered in the spring of 2020. This is 1 credit course designed for non-science majors and will examine the chemistry underlying some of the more contentious issues in America today, with the goal of understanding and critiquing the various perspectives on these issues. Topics will include the nature of scientific investigation, climate change, childhood vaccinations, and genetically modified organisms. As a final project, each student will prepare a brief oral or written presentation on a pseudoscience topic of their choice Classes will focus on discussions of readings and videos. It meets Friday 10:10 – 11:00 AM.
