Study Title: Relationship of Pain and Physical Activity in Individuals with and without Kneecap Pain
Purpose: To evaluate the relationship between daily pain and physical activity levels.
Participant Restrictions: To participate in the study as individuals with kneecap pain ($25.00), participants must be between 18 and 35 years old and have worst kneecap pain greater than 3/10 in the past week. To participate in the study as healthy individuals ($10.00), participants must be between 18 and 35 years old and have no history of kneecap pain. You will not be able to participate in this study if you: 1) had surgery to your low back or lower extremity, 2) suffered another injury (besides the kneecap pain) to the low back or lower extremity in the past 6-months, 3) had a previous injury to your meniscus, 4) had your kneecap dislocate (move out of place and stay out), or 5) have a history of any neurological disease.
Measurements: You will be provided an activity monitor and diary. A physical activity monitor will be worn for 2-weeks on your wrist. Pain, mood, sleep quality, and self-reported questionnaires will be measured. You will then return the activity monitor and diary at the end of the study (i.e., you do not have to come and visit our laboratory for 2 weeks).
Location: Storrs campus (if you stay in other places, we can arrange to send you an activity monitor and diary.)
