The Martin Luther King Jr. holiday on Jan. 18, 2021, marked the 26th anniversary of the day of service that celebrates the Civil Rights leader’s life and legacy. Observed each year on the third Monday in January as “a day on, not a day off,” MLK Day is the only federal holiday designated as a national day of service to encourage all Americans to volunteer to improve their communities. UConn Community Outreach is hosting this virtual event to encourage students and faculty alike to improve their communities, even from home. This day includes a virtual service portion, a panel portion, and a reflection portion at the end, where a call to action will be emphasized. There will be 3 panels with 3 different topics for participants to choose from, including: healthcare, education, and foreign policy. If you can only attend one part of the event, that is okay, there will be separate links for each portion attached in an email sent to all who sign up.
