Dr. Xiaomei Cong is seeking volunteers to be part of a paid research study. This research is being done at the School of Nursing at UConn Storrs and is evaluating pain associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome and the effects of a self-management program on symptoms and quality of life. Participation will include completing questionnaires about your symptoms, a sensory examination and providing samples from of cheek swabs, blood and from your stool over 12 weeks.
If you are between the ages of 18 and 29 years, and were diagnosed with IBS by a healthcare professional, and have access to a computer with internet you may be eligible to participate.
You will not be eligible if you are: taking opioids on a regular basis; taking prebiotics, probiotics or antibiotics; have other areas of your body affected by chronic pain; are currently using illegal substances
