  • 10/8 Austin Lecture: Dr. Cynthia Coburn at UConn

    Dear Faculty/Staff Community,

The Center for Education Policy Analysis, Research, and Evaluation (CEPARE) is excited to announce that Dr. Cynthia E. Coburn, the Margaret Walker Alexander Professor in the School of Education and Social Policy at Northwestern University, will deliver the Philip E. Austin Lecture.

Pathways between Policy and Practice: The Role of Social Networks and Social Interaction
    Where: Gentry 144
    When: October 8 | 1:00–2:30 PM

In this talk, Dr. Coburn will share insights from two decades of studying policy implementation in U.S. public schools. She will explore:

    • How schools’ connections to their environments enable or constrain the impact of policy.
    • The role of social interaction and school leadership in shaping reform efforts.
    • How teachers’ social networks connect them to policy beyond their schools.
    • The ways districts create opportunities for teachers to learn, illustrated through early childhood mathematics instruction.
    • How broader institutional changes and shifting ideas of “good instruction” influence policy and practice over time.
