Dear colleagues:
With the growing number of doctoral students and faculty interested in issues related to STEM education, we wanted to propose creating a floating community of folks who would enjoy meeting once a month. We might read a recent report, read calls for research, hear about each other's research, or discuss possibilities for new projects. The idea is to not create more work for work's sake, but instead a standing time where we might enjoy one another's company and talk about substantive ideas relevant to our work. We won't bother ourselves with things like defining "STEM," or worrying about whether it should be STEAM or math or science or . . . Our tent is capacious and all are welcome.
We could meet over lunch in a local restaurant or on campus, or at Suzanne's house for a potluck meal, or at a time of the day that works for folks in Gentry. The purpose would be to build community through learning together and from one another. If you are interested in trying the idea on for size (no commitment needed), please respond to the doodle poll with your availability for an initial meeting: http://doodle.com/poll/nf8nt8qtz3teytuf. The times after 5 pm are meant to represent a once a month potluck after work (exact time to be determined by participants).
Looking forward and happy new year!
Suzanne
