  • UConn Athletics Division - Volunteer Interns

    The UConn Division of Athletics is looking for passionate, creative, and hardworking individuals to fill Volunteer Intern positions to help create, develop and execute a "student-athlete content team", known as "The Pound".

    Volunteer Interns will be responsible for the ideation, development, and creation of digital and social media content focused on the student-athlete experience at UConn ranging from videos, photojournalism, animation, journalism, and graphic design.

    The goal is for this content to be shared via the team's official social channels and platforms and the main UConn Athletics social channels to increase overall content, student engagement, and fan engagement.

    Potential teams that will be covered are: Men's Soccer, Women's Soccer, Men's Ice Hockey, Women's Ice Hockey, Baseball, and Softball.

    Below is additional information on the Volunteer Intern position requirements, the experience needed, and the schedule for each team's coverage and time commitment. This is an unpaid volunteer internship and is open to students of all class standing. Volunteer interns will be credited on the content they create when their work is released on official Athletics Channel, and they will have the ability to use their content that they create for Athletics in their own portfolio.

     Skills Required:

    •  Works well independently and also collaboratively as part of a team
    • Ability to multitask
    • The ability to analyze and assess the impact/reach/success of their projects (results/expectations)
    • Must understand social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat)
    • Strong communication and organization skills
    • Strong problem-solving skills

    Upperclassmen will be placed in mentor/mentee roles to guide underclassmen on project skills like using the Adobe Creative Cloud (Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effect, Premiere, Lightroom) and video equipment.

    Schedule:  8-10 hour commitment a week

     Fall:

    • Men's Soccer: 8/1-11/15
    • Women's Soccer: 8/1-11/10

     Fall/Winter:

    • Men's Ice Hockey: 9/1-3/17
    • Women's Ice Hockey: 9/1-3/17

     Potentially Spring:

    • Baseball: 1/15-5/31
    • Softball: 1/15-5/15

     

    Available Positions and Skills Needed:

    Graphic Designers:

    • Experience/Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator
    • Will be working with graphic designers to create content using the photos the photographer will be taking
    • Has the ability to create graphic design content for Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
    • Will have the ability to propose new ideas for graphic design content with help of their Marketing Department liaison and The Pound advisors

    Videographers/Editors:

    • Experience/Proficiency in Adobe Premiere
    • Experience/Proficiency in using cameras, microphones and video equipment
    • Will be filming and editing interviews, features and video series focused on the student-athletes
    • Content will range from the following: short form video, long form video, interviews, profiles, entertainment
    • Will have the ability to propose new ideas for video content with help of their Marketing Department liaison and The Pound advisors

    Photographer:

    • Experience/Proficiency in Adobe Lightroom
    • Working in photojournalism and portraits of student-athletes
    • Will be working with graphic designers to create content using the photos you take
    • Has the ability to create graphic design content for Instagram, Twitter and Facebook
    • Will have the ability to propose new ideas for photography content with help of their Marketing Department liaison and The Pound advisors

    Animator:

    • Experience/Proficiency in Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and After Effect
    • Will be creating short, animated content telling student-athlete stories at UConn
    • Will involve storyboarding and meeting with athlete, The Pound heads, and Marketing liaison to make sure content meets their standard
    • Will have the ability to propose new ideas for animation content with help of their Marketing Department liaison and The Pound advisors

    Journalists:

    • Experience/Proficiency in Journalism, Interviewing, English, and Storytelling
    • Will be helping interview, write and create stories from the student-athletes we interview
    • Will have the ability to propose new ideas for journalism content with help of their Marketing Department liaison and The Pound advisors
