Dear Honors advisors and instructors,
We’re excited to announce the availability of our new Honors Conversion forms. For those of you who have supervised conversions in the past, there are a few important updates and new features.
Instructors can now submit Conversion Plans for their courses.
Students will have the option to search for a submitted Conversion Plan and import it into their Honors Conversion Agreement. They will still be able to edit their own Agreement, so instructors may choose to use the Conversion Plan as a template by telling students to select from multiple options or to fill in certain information. We hope that those of you who design your conversions ahead of time find this helpful!
Advisors are no longer required to approve Honors conversions.
This is a policy change approved by the Honors Board last April. It reduces the workload associated with Honors advising and should assist students in having their Honors Conversion Agreements approved on time.
Advisors: Once a student’s conversion proposal is processed, Student Administration shows them as being enrolled in the course for Honors credit.
There are a few other minor changes to the Honors Conversion Agreement form.
- Independent study and independent research courses are assumed to be conducted at an Honors level, so there is no additional conversion work. Honors Conversion Agreements will be used to add Honors credit to these courses but will not contain a Conversion Plan.
- We want students and instructors to consider how this conversion creates an Honors learning experience that lines up with our theoretical framework, so there is a new question asking them to select all the ways that the conversion “honorizes” this course.
- Occasionally, students believe they’ve completed a conversion, but instructors don’t consider their work sufficient for Honors credit. To avoid conflicts, a new question prompts for the quality standard required for satisfactory conversion work.
