  • UHL Distribution Update

As you may recall, the University Honors Laureate has a course distribution requirement to ensure students get breadth in their Honors curriculum. Part of the course distribution is course categories (Arts & Humanities, Social Sciences, STEM) and Diversity & Multiculturalism, and these were originally intended to connect to UConn general education requirements. With the move to Common Curriculum, we needed to reevaluate this part of our requirements.

For students entering UConn under Common Curriculum, the distribution requirements have not changed, but the process to assign courses to categories has been simplified:

    • All subject codes have been assigned a category except those that are explicitly interdisciplinary. (And a few that are not being categorized due to the small number of classes.)
      • Undergraduate and graduate courses for a given subject code can have different categories but usually do not.
      • If the subject code has been assigned a category, all courses with that subject code will have that category.
    • For interdisciplinary subject codes, individual courses have been categorized.
    • Some subject codes have been designated as having all courses meet the Diversity & Multiculturalism (D&M) requirement.
    • If the subject code does not have all courses meet the D&M requirement, individual courses may be designated.

No course categorizations are being changed for students who were already enrolled at UConn.

To see both sets of course classifications, go to:

Clicking the “Spring 2025 or earlier" button will show you the “old” categorizations and clicking the “Summer 2025 or later” button will show you the new ones.

If you have any questions or concerns about how your subject’s courses have been categorized, please let me know.
