In October, the CCD begins presenting to Honors UNIV classes. No matter what year you are, there are a few major points from these presentations that are essential to your professional development. These points are using your résumé as a planning document, gaining transferrable skills, and getting involved.
To make yourself a strong applicant it is important to get involved. This means not only joining clubs and organizations, but being an active member and gaining leadership positions. If you know what career field you are interested in, you can use your résumé as a planning document. Create sections on your résumé that apply to your field such as internship experience, laboratory skills and leadership experience and join activities that will help you gain experiences for these categories. Through these experiences you will gain transferrable skills, which are skills that are important no matter what field you are in. It is important to keep these concepts in mind throughout your undergraduate career. If you have any questions after your Honors UNIV course please feel free to come in to the CCD to meet with a Career Counselor or to get your résumé critiqued. Also, feel free to utilize our new career tool, huskycareerprep.uconn.edu, to layout your goals and prepare for professional opportunities.
