    Job Description

    Job Summary: 

    The mission of the Health Promotion team in Student Health and Wellness is to mobilize the UConn community to cultivate the conditions that foster student wellbeing, empower students, and address health inequities - amplifying the voices of our oppressed communities.? 

     

    Student Health and Wellness (SHaW) is seeking applicants for a Media and Communications Specialist position. By working on projects that incorporate audio editing, multimedia mental health education, social media, and videography, this position will support the goal for digital communication: drive meaningful and engaging interactions with undergraduate and graduate students in support of SHaW’s mission, services, and programs.  

    Under direct supervision of the Program Manager for Mental Health and Health Equity Initiatives, the Holistic Huskies – Media and Communications Specialist promotes, develops, and  implements multimedia mental health education programming across several platformsTaking a public health and pro-equity approach, the Holistic Huskies – Media and Communications Specialist is committed to delivering and enhancing sustainable and evidenced-based health promotion and education initiatives, by raising awareness around mental/emotional wellbeing using different forms of media. The Holistic Huskies are role models and resources to the undergraduate student population and representatives to Student Health and Wellness.  

     

    Job responsibilities: 

    Edits audio recordings to produce podcast episodes 

    Promotes mental health education and the Holistic Huskies podcast by designing digital content and graphics for social media and our website. 

    Research current trends in multimedia storytellingutilize them to gather and create content for SHaW’s media platforms.  

    Seek out stories, participate in brainstorming and pitching sessions to create content for SHaW’S media channels that will engage and encourage connections between the members of the community.  

    Develop impactful and meaningful digital content by pairing strong imagery (photographic and video) with engaging storytelling (written, audio). 

    Job Requirements

    Job Requirements: 

    This on-campus, in-person position is for 6 hours a week and may be adjusted based on departmental needs and budget. Working hours are primarily between 8:30am-8:30pm, Monday – Friday. Occasional weekend hours are required. Shifts are expected to be performed in-person, on the Storrs campus. This position is not eligible for remote work or telecommuting, except for special circumstances. Campus parking is not provided. 

    Applicants must be able to commit to at-least one full year of service (Fall 2024 and Spring 2025). Continuation of this appointment is subject to continued departmental needs and satisfactory performance of job functions. 

     

    Minimum Qualifications 

    Proficiency in audio editing. 

    Interest in promoting mental health and emotional wellbeing education, mental health awareness, awareness of oppression, and coping skills development. 

    Experience working with diverse populations and a demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. 

    Experience with creating digital content (e.g. video, podcasts, photos) and editing software  

    Awareness of current digital content creation trends, ability to apply them in a strategy-appropriate way.  

    A team player who will enjoy collaborating with members of the SHaW team, UConn students, and partners throughout the UConn community. 

    Strong verbal and written communication skills.  

    Strong organizational skills and attention to detail. 

    Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills. 

    Ability to operate a computer and phone with access to personal laptop or phone.
