About the Speaker: J. Toscano, founding partner of Backstory Strategies, has been devising political communications strategy and producing television and digital ads for candidates, party committees, and public interest groups for more than 20 years. He’ll talk to us about what works in political communications and show examples of his most creative and controversial ads.
He’s helped elect dozens of members of Congress, including progressive firebrand Pramila Jayapal, Dr. Kim Schrier, and Steven Horsford, the first Black member of Congress in Nevada history. He’s worked with the League of Conservation Voters, Congressional Progressive Caucus, Priorities USA, NewDems, VoteVets, The Lincoln Project and other groups to help elect their favored candidates. Prior to becoming a political consultant, Toscano, a Connecticut native, served as the Communications Director for the House Democratic Caucus and was appointed by President Clinton to serve as Director of Public Affairs for AmeriCorps, the national service program.
