The portal for the State of CT Judicial Internship Program will be opening Friday, November 1, and will be closing on Monday, November 25. Here is the link to our portal. In addition to our traditional placements like those in pretrial services, probation and the clerk's offices, we have a few administrative and other placements that we'd like to highlight (full list attached):
Centralized Infractions Bureau
The Centralized Infractions Bureau Clerk's Office located in Wethersfield is seeking an intern who will be responsible for a variety of administrative duties. Tasks will include data entry, pulling of files, looking up felony and misdemeanor records and assisting customers at the window. (Target majors: CJ, paralegal)
Criminal Matters Unit
The Criminal Matters Unit located in Wethersfield is looking for an intern with an interest in criminal matters as well as business and/or political science. This unit is currently undertaking a large quality assurance project that the intern will be integral in completing. This project will improve the productivity, health and welfare of each Geographical Court Clerk's Office. The majority of this project will include reviewing files for data accuracy. Additionally, the intern will be reviewing dockets, assisting with trainings and making site visits. There is also an opportunity to partake in legislative research and review. (Target majors: CJ, political science, business)
OVS (Central Office)
The Office of Victim Services Central Office located in Wethersfield is looking for an intern to assist with administrative duties including scanning and entering data into a computer management system. The intern will also have the opportunity to shadow court-based victim services advocates in the field. (Target majors: paralegal, sociology, psychology)
Also, there are a handful of offices in locations where we don't always have a lot of applicants and therefore there is a lot of opportunity there. They are:
Adult probation in Bridgeport, Norwalk, Danielson and Norwich - The Bridgeport and Norwalk offices are looking for students to work with a PSI officer. These students should have excellent writing skills, attention to detail and interest in law enforcement. Norwalk, Danielson and Norwich also have officers who supervise clients who are looking for interns.
Pretrial Services in Waterbury is looking for an intern to work in the Jail Reinterview Program. An ideal student for this placement is interested in criminal justice as well as mental health and/or psychology.
The Stamford clerk’s offices would like interns in both the criminal and civil/family offices.
The Danielson Court has a number of placements available. If you have a student interested in adult probation, clerk’s office, family relations or the office of victim services, those positions are always available in Danielson.
New London is also looking for an intern in their office of victim services.
Finally, our Court Services Centers in Waterbury and New Haven are looking for interns who have strong customer service skills, strong communication skills and an interest in criminal justice. Students who are bilingual are highly sought after in these placements.
If you have students who you think would be willing to travel to those locations, we always have spots available (and we do reimburse for mileage).
Finally, I wanted to give a quick reminder that all students who wish to participate in the program will need to be approved by their advisor once they have submitted their application. If a student is not approved to participate by their advisor, we cannot proceed with their application.
