  • International Women's Strikes

For more than two years, the world has witnessed extraordinary and repeated mobilizations of women in their hundreds of thousands. These mobilizations have included the massive Ni Una Menos (Not One Less) mobilizations in Argentina demanding that the state allocate money and take other measures to prevent femicides; successive Argentinian and Irish and Polish mobilizations to legalize abortion; strikes in Iceland and France and Scotland against the gender pay gap; and the massive women’s protests against Trump in the United States. On March 8, 2018 in Spain, five million took part in an unprecedented “feminist strike.” Come and hear two leaders of the new global movement networked as the International Women’s Strike and discuss what we can learn from their experience. Lucía Cavallero is a sociologist and researcher at the Universidad de Buenos Aires, and member of the feminist collective NiUnaMenos. Her research focuses on areas of economic criminality and gender.  Julia Cámara is a PhD student at the Complutense University. She is a member of the coordination of the Spanish feminist movement (M8) and was one of the organizers and speakers of the 2018 women's strike in Spain.  Co-sponsored with International Women’s Strike CT, UConn YSA, Women and Gender Resource Action Center Trinity College, and Stamford Hospitality Worker’s Local 217.
